Introduction

Cottonwood Mansion is a Southern Ontario tourist attraction that depicts the Victorian era, and draws visitors from all over. While visiting Cottonwood one can step back in time to the late 1800s. Built as a private farm home, the Mansion now serves as a Living Museum that displays period furniture and artifacts. The location is north of Selkirk near Lake Erie in open countryside, on land originally owned by the Hoover family, the first settlers to the area.

The Mansion is an Italianate style three-story building with a belvedere (meaning beautiful view, sometimes known as a 'widow's walk'). It is a large 6,000 square foot, fifteen room house, built around 1870, of variegated orange brick.

Volunteer members of Cottonwood Mansion Preservation Foundation look after upkeep and all details involved in running the Museum, including raising funds to keep it in operation. There is no paid staff. Special events are held throughout the year to meet expenses, and the facilities can be rented for private events such as birthday celebrations, showers, weddings, business functions, etc.
