GRANTING A CHILD'S WISH
Most children have all their lives to make their wishes come true. But for those children who may never have a tomorrow, there’s The Children’s Wish foundation of Canada.
Our goal is to provide a once in a lifetime experience for children suffering from high risk, life-threatening illnesses. Fulfilling a child’s wish provides a brief escape from the harsh reality of their lives and offers a little happiness. Restoring time for togetherness and much needed laughter, not only helps the children, but provides fond memories to help ease the sorrow of the families they leave behind.
The wishes we grant are as unique as the children who make them. Sometimes it’s a visit with their favourite movie star, or a tour of Disney World. But often it’s something as simple as a trip to visit the grandmother they’ve never seen. Whatever the wish, we do our utmost to make it come true, in some instances with only a day or week to complete the arrangements. The standard of personal care and attention given to each wish sets our foundation apart from any other organization.
The success of our results can be measured by the hundreds of deeply moving letters we receive from the children and their parents after the wish has been granted. Not to mention the glowing face of a child as they board the flight that will carry them to their dream come true.
With provincial chapters right across the country, the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada grants hundreds of wishes every month. Wish requests are received by our provincial directors who take great care to ascertain that the request is truly the wish of the child before we complete the arrangements. The wish is then processed by the National Office, where the arrangements are completed. The only stipulations are that the parents or legal guardians consent to our involvement, a doctor must sign a medical release, and the child must be under the age of 18 before the time the request is received.
As public awareness increases, so do the number of children requesting our assistance. Often the time we have to complete a request is limited, so we require a constant source of funds. Our sole means of support is through donations from companies, service groups and people like yourself.

The Things I Would Do
How happy I’d be
If I didn’t have cancer.
There are so many things I would do.
I’d be on the baseball team with all my friends.
I’d be a great track star too.
I’d run so fast and never get short of breath.
Oh, the things I would do.
And I would do them my best.
I’d go out with my buddies to the mall,
And the movies.
I’d do all of the things
That my friends do.
Except I’d do them better.
Oh, the fun I would have,
If I didn’t feel bad.
I do have cancer
And there are a lot of things
I can’t do.
But there are a lot of things
I can do too.
Whatever I can do I do it my best,
And I’m stronger than most
Deep inside.
I fight very hard every day
I pray to the Lord that one day,
someday,
I know God
Will take my cancer away.
